Certification | Social Compliance
Why Get Certified
The international standard for socially responsible employment practices that offers certification for companies that wish to demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility.
Requirements
There are nine key areas to Social Compliance
- Child Labour
- Forced Labour
- Health and Safety
- Freedom of association and collective bargaining
- Discrimination
- Disciplinary practices
- Working hours
- Compensation
- Management systems
It is estimated that upwards of 100 million children worldwide are in full-time employment. Under the requirements of Social Compliance, companies must not allow child labour. They must also provide a safe and healthy work place for all and respect the right of all employees to join a trade union.
Discrimination, in any form, is not allowed and neither is corporal punishment or verbal abuse.
Those companies who gain Social Compliance certification will ensure that their employees and those employees of their suppliers do not work for more than 48 hours per week or more than six days per week. Wages throughout the supply chain must be at worse equal to legal or industry minimum levels and must leave the employee with some discretionary income.
The final requirement governing management systems sets out the procedures and structures that companies must adopt to ensure compliance with the standard is continuously reviewed.
Why choose Global
Global clients choose us in preference to other certification bodies because we offer a fast, efficient and flexible service. Social Compliance can be a taxing standard to audit because of the cultural differences that we find working in different regions of the world. The differences we find between countries like Bangladesh, Thailand, Turkey and China, just to mention a few that we operate in, can be so varied, not just the culture but also business methods. However, because we have a network of suitably qualified auditors that are based either in country or region, clients are pleased with our sensitive and sensible approach.
